EXTRA STATE TROOPERS WORKING DURING HOLIDAY

Nearly 200 additional New Jersey Troopers are working during the holiday weekend.  Nearly 1 million New Jersey residents will travel at least 50 miles between now and Memorial Day.  Last year, 15 people were killed in traffic accidents during Memorial Day weekend. ##

FUGITIVE ROUNDED UP IN STONE HARBOR

Stone Harbor Police arrested 32 year old Wesley Minnich of Pennsylvania who was a fugitive from justice.  Police responded to a disturbance call on May 24th and Minnich was arrested; during his arrest, he was combative with police and and spit on an officer. ##

AVALON RECEIVES BIG STATE GRANT FOR STREET CONSTRUCTION

Avalon has received a large state grant for street reconstruction.  Mayor Marty Pagliughi announced that the Borough has received over $180,000 for the reconstruction of a portion of 39th Street in the community.  The grant came from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. ##

22 YEAR OLD MAN KILLED ON ROUTE 55 FRIDAY MORNING

A 22 year old man was killed after being struck by two motor vehicles on Route 55 early Friday morning.  New Jersey State Police say Laron Washington Jr. of Sewell walked into the roadway in Maurice River Township shortly after 1:00am.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. ##

TWO CHARGED WITH DRUG DISTRIBUTION IN MIDDLE TOWNSHIP

Middle Township Police have charged a local couple with drug distribution charges.  Police found over a half ounce of crack cocaine and marijuana in a residence belonging to 38 year old James “Shakey” Powell and 35 year old Dana Robinson-Powell who live on Main Street in Edgewood. ##

NJ CONVENIENCE STORE CAUGHT SELLING POT, DRUG PRODUCTS

A Pit Stop convenience store in East Brunswick has run afoul of the law for allegedly selling marijuana and other drug related products in the store.  Police say the store was selling pot, pot-laced gummie candies, and cigars laced with THC, the chemical that is present in marijuana. ##
