AVALON APPROVES APPLICATION FOR TREE PLANTING GRANT

Avalon’s Borough Council met Wednesday afternoon and approved the application of a State grant to plant trees throughout the community.  Avalon could be awarded up to $30,000 for various tree planting initiatives.  Council also announced that more than 700,000 cubic yards of sand has been placed during the current beach fill project. ##

SEISMIC SURVEYS COMING TO ATLANTIC OCEAN BEFORE OFFSHORE DRILLING

The Trump administration is pushing forward with plans for seismic surveys in the Atlantic Ocean before offshore drilling can occur.  The feds are now reviewing applications by energy companies that were denied by the Obama administration.  Many local tourism and environmental groups oppose this plan. ##

ATLANTIC COUNTY INTRODUCES NEW COUNTY BUDGET

Atlantic County introduced a new $205 million county budget during its freeholder meeting on Tuesday.  County freeholders introduced the budget without comment.  There has been talk of a tax increase on Atlantic County taxpayers due to financing issues relating to Atlantic City. ##

SHOOTING REPORTED AT VINELAND APARTMENT BUILDING

Vineland Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex late Tuesday afternoon.  Police were called to the scene of Asselta Acres on Axtell Avenue.  Police say a blue minivan had its windows shot out.  No word of any injuries or suspects in custody. ##
