PAYLESS SHOES CLOSING STORE IN CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE

The Payless Shoe store in Cape May Court House is among 400 stores that are closing nationwide.  Payless confirmed today that the Court House location is opening while others in our region are staying open.  Six other New Jersey Payless stores will close, the rest are in central and northern New Jersey. ##

JERSEY SHORE COMMUNITY TRIES TO RESTRICT BEACHFRONT PARKING

The central New Jersey beach community of Deal will hold a meeting Wednesday night in an attempt to restrict beachfront parking.  Opponents say the proposed parking permitting process would restrict access to the beaches, which everyone pays for and uses.  Deal has attempted this parking prohibition before, but failed to get it enacted.

LONG TIME CAPE MAY BUSINESSMAN CARL AXELSON, 79

Long time Cape May businessman Carl Axelson has passed away at the age of 79.  Axelson and his brother were the co-owners of Mayer’s Tavern and the Captain’s Cove, both in Cape May.  Services will be held Saturday at the Spiker Funeral Home. ##

Payless Shoes is closing 400 stores immediately, but it’s not known if any of the stores in our area will be closing.  Payless has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will close hundreds of stores immediately.  Payless has stores locally in Rio Grande, Cape May Court House, Somers Point, and Atlantic City. ##
