STATE’S SMOKING AGE RISES TO 21 YEARS OLD ON NOVEMBER 1

New Jersey’s legal smoking age will rise from 19 to 21 years of age on November 1at. Governor Christie signed the new legislation into law just before the weekend. Only California and Hawaii also have similar age restrictions. ##

TUITION GOING UP AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY

Tuition is going up this year at Rutgers University. School officials announced a 1.85 percent increase in tuition this year, putting the average bill at $14,638. Rutgers is also increasing fees charged for room and board. ##

12 YEAR OLD GIRL DROWNS ON NEW JERSEY BEACH

A 12 year lost her life on Monday, one day after being pulled from the surf by lifeguards in Sandy Hook. Officials say the girl was unresponsive when she was pulled from the ocean just as lifeguards were ending their service for the day on Sunday. ##
